San Juan La Laguna

San Juan La Laguna, a place dyed with works of art where stories are told about characters who have stood out in some activity that takes place in the town. San Juan La Laguna the open-air museum made up of large-format murals in the different streets of the town !!! A great combination of colors stamped on the walls of the different houses of the neighbors of the town or on office walls of some Institution !!!

Taa’ Me’n (elder Don Clemente), one of the masters in the execution of the Chirimía in the town, with this mural is remembered for the great melodies that sounded from his wind instrument, the Chirimía. He is one of the great characters that encouraged and preserved tz’utujil art through music.

This mural represents the group of young people Tz’utuj Q’ajom who, with their ancestral Mayan music, rejoice the ears of the townspeople and the people who visit them. One of their objectives is to recover some of the Mayan instruments and how to perform them to delight the ears with their beautiful melodies.

Jícaras, a container that is made from the fruit of the jícaro, in San Juan La Laguna is used to serve corn dough atol (matz ’) in the different traditional festivals that take place.

So when you walk in San Juan La Laguna, you enjoy these beautiful works of art.
